Bright Day for Metros
It’s officially a season-theme that hopefully changes: missing. The MetroStars and First Row Idiots were able to overcome many missing elements to have a great sunny day at Giant Stadium versus the team with the best record in the league, the Los Angeles Galaxy. The MetroStars were able to deal with the absence of 9 players, many who are starters, to earn a surprising, but well deserved victory over the Galaxy. The MetroStars played pretty well to a 2-1 victory. First Row Idiots were missing: members, the normal tailgating location, and the official grill, but still managed a successful and enjoyable tailgate.
The normal tailgating spot at 16A was closed due to a Fair taking place at Giant Stadium, so the First Row Idiots instead met up at 4K, right in front of Gate B. Attendance for this week’s game included the return of First Row Idiot and proud new father Jason, as well as the usual Keith, Ofer and Ronen. Brian and Greg continue to serve out their red card suspensions. Hopefully they will hear from the people who run Giant Stadium soon about reinstatement. Brian’s suspension didn’t stop him from enjoy some soccer though. Brian joined Drew and Joey in Portugal for UEFA’s Euro 2004 action. Paul and John were missing due to family obligations. Once again the group had a few special guests including the first appearance by Jason’s son Joshua. Joshua is the youngest First Row Idiots guest who has watched the Metro game with the group. We don’t expect that record to last very long though, because the buzz is Ronen’s son David will soon make his Metro game debut soon.
John’s absence left us missing the group’s official grill, but due to some quick and clever thinking we were able to easily devise a backup plan to enjoy an abundance of good grilled food. Plenty of beer was consumed on a sunny day where temperatures reached a comfortable 81 degrees at Giants Stadium.
Missing many key players, the Metros benefited from excellent playing by some new and old faces to dominate the LA Galaxy. The Galaxy’s only goal came on a questionable call which resulted in a penalty kick.
